Former Remo Stars captain Junior Nduka has explained why he decided to continue his career in India with Sporting Club Delhi.
The Nigerian defender recently joined the Indian side after spending the previous season in Iraq, where he played for Al-Najaf following his move away from Remo Stars.
Nduka said the financial package offered by SC Delhi was an important factor in his decision, while also stressing that he considered the club and the quality of football before accepting the move.
Nduka prioritises career and financial security
Speaking in an interview with Premium Times, Nduka said professional footballers must consider financial opportunities alongside their passion for the game.
He explained that he chose SC Delhi after assessing what the club could offer and concluded that it was the right move for him at this stage of his career.
The 23-year-old also rejected the perception that India is not a serious footballing destination, pointing to the facilities and level of competition available there.
Nduka said his experience in different football environments has taught him the importance of adapting quickly.
Defender ready for new challenge
The former Remo Stars captain acknowledged that playing in India will present a different challenge from what he experienced in Nigeria and Iraq.
He highlighted differences in tactics, teammates, weather, playing conditions and style, but said professional players must be prepared to adjust.
Nduka also revealed that adaptation was one of his biggest lessons from his time in Iraq and believes the experience will help him settle into Indian football.
Nduka wants to help SC Delhi
The defender said his focus is now on contributing to SC Delhi and helping the club achieve its objectives.
SC Delhi had already made progress in the Durand Cup before Nduka’s arrival, reaching the semi-final where they were eliminated by East Bengal.
Nduka said he intends to contribute his defensive qualities and ability to play from the back while following the instructions of the coaching staff.
The Nigerian defender rose through the Remo Stars youth system and later became captain of the club. He helped the team win their first NPFL title before moving abroad.
His move to SC Delhi represents another chapter in a career that has already taken him from the NPFL to Iraq and now India.
