Victor Osimhen has received another major endorsement after veteran Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus weighed in on the growing comparison between the Nigerian striker and Manchester City star Erling Haaland.
Osimhen has established himself as one of the most feared forwards in world football over the last few years. The Super Eagles striker has continued to deliver goals at club and international level, earning praise from coaches, former players and football analysts.
Speaking about elite strikers in modern football, Jorge Jesus was asked to compare Osimhen with Haaland, a player widely regarded as one of the deadliest finishers in the game.
The experienced coach admitted that Haaland remains a special striker because of his incredible goalscoring record, but he also highlighted Osimhen’s qualities, particularly his movement, work rate, aggression and ability to influence games beyond scoring goals.
The debate between both forwards has become more common in recent years as Osimhen continues to close the gap on football’s biggest attacking stars.
The Galatasaray forward remains Nigeria’s biggest football export and one of the key figures in Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles squad. Despite recently battling a groin injury, Osimhen was still included in Nigeria’s plans for the AFCON qualifying campaign because of his importance to the national team.
At 27, Osimhen is already among the highest goalscorers in Super Eagles history and remains a player many Nigerian fans believe can break more records before the end of his career.
While opinions will continue to differ on who is the better striker, Jorge Jesus’ comments have added fresh fuel to the conversation.
However, the fact that Osimhen is now being mentioned in the same discussions as Haaland is another sign of how highly regarded the Super Eagles star has become in world football.
