Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has named his dream five-a-side Nigeria team, and surprisingly, Victor Osimhen did not make the cut.
The Fulham star revealed his selection while speaking with journalists in the Super Eagles camp ahead of Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar in Uyo.
Iwobi, who is one of the most experienced players in the current squad, selected former goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama between the sticks.
In defence, he picked former captain Joseph Yobo, while the midfield and attack featured some of the greatest players to ever wear the green and white jersey.
The 30-year-old included his uncle, Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha, alongside Nigerian legends Kanu Nwankwo and John Obi Mikel.
The lineup immediately caught attention because it left out current Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, who is widely regarded as one of the best Nigerian forwards of his generation.
Osimhen is currently closing in on Rashidi Yekini’s all-time Super Eagles goalscoring record and remains one of Nigeria’s most important players.
Despite that, Iwobi preferred a team built around experience, creativity and technical quality.
The former Arsenal midfielder is expected to play a key role when Nigeria face Madagascar on Friday.
A victory would give Eric Chelle’s side a strong start to their AFCON qualifying campaign, especially as only one team from the group is guaranteed a place at the tournament.
Iwobi currently has more than 100 appearances for the Super Eagles and remains one of the senior figures in the squad.
As preparations continue in Uyo, Nigerian fans will be hoping the midfielder can inspire the team to three important points against Madagascar and help the Super Eagles begin their qualification journey on a winning note.
