Real Madrid Edge Inter Milan as Former Super Eagles Duo Roll Back the Years in Legends Clash

Former Super Eagles stars Victor Obinna and Joel Obi were among the headline attractions as Real Madrid Legends came from behind to defeat Inter Milan Legends 2-1 in the latest edition of the annual Corazón Classic Match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The charity fixture, which brings together some of the biggest names from football’s past, attracted a packed crowd in Madrid as fans witnessed a nostalgic showdown between two European giants.

Inter Milan struck first through Brazilian midfielder Hernanes, giving the Nerazzurri legends an early advantage. However, Real Madrid responded strongly and completed the comeback thanks to goals from club icon Pepe and David Barral, securing victory in front of their home supporters.

For Nigerian football fans, the match provided a special moment as Obinna and Joel Obi featured prominently for the Inter Milan Legends side. Both players enjoyed memorable spells with the Italian giants during their professional careers and were warmly received by supporters.

Obinna, who joined Inter Milan after impressing in Serie A with Chievo, remains one of the most recognizable Nigerian forwards to have represented the club. The former striker won domestic honours during his time in Milan before going on to play in England, Spain, Russia and Germany. 

Joel Obi also emerged from Inter’s youth ranks and established himself in the first team, making over 50 appearances for the Nerazzurri before enjoying a lengthy career across Italian football.

The annual Corazón Classic Match is organized to support charitable projects through the Real Madrid Foundation and has become one of the most anticipated legends fixtures in world football. This year’s encounter once again showcased the enduring quality of former stars who continue to entertain fans long after retirement. 

Although the result ultimately went Real Madrid’s way, the presence of Obinna and Joel Obi ensured Nigerian football had strong representation on one of football’s most celebrated exhibition stages.
