Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen found himself at the centre of controversy on Friday night after clashing with Villarreal defender Santiago Mouriño during Galatasaray’s preseason friendly at Rams Park.

The Nigerian international had earlier given Galatasaray fans something to cheer about when he capitalised on a defensive mistake to score the equaliser and make it 1-1 in the opening half.

However, the match took a dramatic turn in the 37th minute when tensions flared between Osimhen and Mouriño during a Galatasaray attacking move. According to reports, a verbal exchange between the pair quickly escalated before the Nigerian striker moved towards the Villarreal defender and pushed him to the ground.

Mouriño immediately got back to his feet and confronted Osimhen, with both players going head-to-head as teammates rushed in to prevent the situation from worsening.

The incident briefly halted play and became one of the major talking points of the encounter. Social media footage shared after the match showed the heated exchange from different angles, drawing strong reactions from football fans.

Despite Osimhen’s goal, Galatasaray went into the break trailing after Georges Mikautadze restored Villarreal’s advantage in the 41st minute. The Spanish side held on to secure a 2-1 victory in the preseason contest.

The confrontation comes as Osimhen continues preparations for the new season with Galatasaray following another impressive campaign in Turkey. The striker remains one of the club’s key players and a major figure for Nigeria’s Super Eagles heading into upcoming international assignments.
