Super Eagles-eligible defender Peter Amoran Toluwanimi is expected to return to Parma this summer after an underwhelming loan spell at Cesena, with former Chelsea and Arsenal star Ashley Cole also facing an uncertain future at the Italian club.
Toluwanimi spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Serie B side Cesena but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. The 22-year-old centre-back made just seven league appearances during the campaign, managing only 263 minutes of action as Cesena pushed for a place in the promotion play-offs.
His loan agreement runs until the end of June, and while Cesena hold an option to make the move permanent, there have been no strong indications that the club intends to activate the clause. Parma, who retain contractual control of the player until 2027, are therefore expected to welcome him back ahead of pre-season preparations.
The Nigerian-born defender remains a player of interest for followers of the Super Eagles despite representing Sweden at youth level. Born in Abuja before moving to Sweden as a child, Toluwanimi is still eligible to play for Nigeria at senior international level.
His return to Parma could offer a fresh opportunity to revive a career that has stalled in recent months. The defender arrived at Cesena hoping to gain valuable first-team experience, but opportunities proved limited as he found himself on the fringes of the squad for much of the season.
Meanwhile, Ashley Cole’s short spell in charge of Cesena also appears to be nearing its conclusion. The former England international took over the Serie B club in March in what was his first full-time senior managerial role after years of coaching experience in England.
Despite arriving with high expectations, Cole has been unable to significantly alter the club’s fortunes, and reports in Italy suggest his future remains uncertain as Cesena assess their plans for the upcoming campaign.
With both Toluwanimi and Cole likely heading for the exit door, Cesena could be set for another summer of major changes as the club looks to regroup ahead of the new Serie B season.
