Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is closing in on becoming Galatasaray’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer following his impressive performances for the Turkish giants.

The Nigerian forward has scored 68 goals in 83 appearances for the Istanbul club, placing him third on the list of the club’s highest-scoring foreign players. Only Mauro Icardi and Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi have scored more goals for the Turkish champions.

Osimhen moved closer to the historic milestone after scoring twice in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Fenerbahçe in the Istanbul derby on Monday, October 26.

The 27-year-old found the net in both halves to help the Yellow and Reds secure an important victory over their city rivals and strengthen their position in the Turkish Super Lig title race.

Meanwhile, his latest goals took his tally for the club to 68 across all competitions, further strengthening his position among Galatasaray’s most prolific foreign imports.

Despite his remarkable scoring record, Osimhen still has work to do before claiming the top position.

Icardi currently leads Galatasaray’s foreign goalscorers with 77 goals, while Hagi occupies second place with 72 strikes.

Consequently, Osimhen needs five more goals to equal Hagi’s tally and six to move ahead of the Romanian legend. He will then need another 10 goals to surpass Icardi and become the club’s leading foreign goalscorer.

The Nigerian international has enjoyed another productive spell in front of goal since returning to Galatasaray.

He has registered nine goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his importance to Okan Buruk’s attack.

Furthermore, his brace against Fenerbahçe continued a strong start to the campaign and brought him closer to another landmark in his Galatasaray career.

With the season still ongoing, Osimhen will have opportunities to climb further up the club’s historical scoring charts as he continues to lead the line for the Turkish champions.
