Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has won the Beyond the Pitch Award at the 2026 Best of Africa Awards in London, recognising his charitable activities and contributions to grassroots football development in Nigeria.
The Nigerian forward received the honour on Monday, October 26, for his commitment to community development and efforts to create opportunities for young footballers.
Presented in partnership with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), the award celebrates players whose contributions extend beyond their performances on the pitch.
Beyond his professional career, Awoniyi has continued to invest in initiatives aimed at helping young Nigerian footballers develop their talents and pursue their ambitions.

One of his major projects is the Kwara Kiddies League, where he has taken an active role in supporting grassroots football.
The competition provides young players with opportunities to train, compete and gain exposure to scouts.
In July 2025, the Coventry City forward became the league’s majority shareholder after initially joining as a sponsor in 2024. He also assumed the role of chairman as he expanded his involvement in youth football development.
Furthermore, his foundation recently donated 350 pairs of football boots to young players participating in the competition. The initiative formed part of his wider efforts to improve access to football equipment and support emerging talents in Kwara State.
The foundation has also supported the league with playing kits, meals and cash rewards for outstanding performers, helping to create a better environment for aspiring footballers.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Best of Africa Awards celebrates individuals of African heritage whose achievements span sports, entertainment, business and philanthropy.
Awoniyi’s latest honour highlights the growing recognition of footballers who contribute to society beyond their professional careers.
The Nigerian international joins several prominent football figures previously recognised by the awards, including Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.
Former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Touré and Kenyan international Victor Wanyama have also received recognition at previous editions.

With his continued investment in grassroots football, Awoniyi is helping to create opportunities for young Nigerian players while strengthening his contribution to the game away from the pitch.
His latest award therefore recognises not only his charitable work but also his commitment to supporting the next generation of football talent in Nigeria.
