Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn against either Sudan or Comoros in the second round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games women’s football tournament.
The draw was conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The Falcons, who are Africa’s top-ranked team and the reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions, were seeded and received a bye into the second round.

Their opponent will be the winner of the first-round tie between Sudan and Comoros, scheduled to be played between June 1 and 9, 2026. The second-round fixtures involving Nigeria are set for October 5 to 13, 2026, and will be contested over two legs, home and away.
The qualification pathway is demanding. Only 16 teams will compete in the women’s football event in Los Angeles, with the host nation, the United States, occupying one slot. The remaining 15 places will be contested across six continental confederations, with Africa allocated only two direct spots. The African qualifying series will involve 35 teams competing across five knockout rounds.
The Super Falcons have a mixed history with the Olympics. The team first appeared at the Games in 2000 and achieved their best performance, a quarter-final finish, at the Athens 2004 Olympics. They competed again in 2008 but then endured a 16-year absence before returning to the tournament at the Paris 2024 Games. That campaign ended in the group stage.
Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has been actively building his squad. He recently called up 25 players for a double-header of friendly matches against Cameroon in February and March 2026 as part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco.
The first-round result between Sudan and Comoros in June will clarify the Falcons’ next direct opponent.
