Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has broken her silence after the ankle injury that overshadowed Nigeria’s Olympic qualifying win over Comoros, thanking supporters for their messages and prayers.

Ajibade posted the update on X on Thursday. She thanked fans for the love and prayers she has received since the injury, and said she was doing okay and that her spirits were high.

She added that scans and medical consultations were still ongoing and that more updates would follow. Her stated focus is recovery and getting back for club and country.

She went down early in the first half of the second leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Tuesday after a heavy collision. She was treated on the pitch, taken off and replaced by Folashade Ijamilusi.

Nigeria went on to win 5-0, with Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scoring twice each and Christy Ucheibe adding a penalty, which made it 7-0 on aggregate.

Some reports say an MRI has led to a plan for surgery in France on Friday, and that she could be out for a long time, possibly for the rest of 2026.

Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen reportedly confirmed the scan results. Ajibade has not confirmed this herself, and the exact diagnosis has not been announced.

Ajibade is the Super Falcons’ captain and one of their most dangerous attackers, so a long layoff hurts.

The team next face Morocco for a place at the LA 2028 Olympics, and Eguavoen will have to decide who replaces her in attack and who takes the armband.

More updates are expected after her scans and any operation. Until then, the length of her absence remains unclear.
