Rangers left-back Jayden Meghoma has opened up about his ambitions to one day represent the Super Eagles, emphasising that strong competition within his club squad is helping him develop as he chases a maiden international call-up.
The London-born defender, who qualifies for Nigeria through his father, currently plays on loan for Rangers in the Scottish Championship. He has been part of a competitive left-back rotation, especially after the arrival of Rommens Tuur in the winter transfer window, but reclaimed his starting role following Tuur’s injury.
Meghoma said he relishes the internal battle for places and sees it as a key part of his growth both on and off the pitch.
“Healthy competition is always important, for myself and for Tuur, so I have enjoyed it because it pushes a different side of you,” he explained, pointing to how learning from teammates helps elevate his own performance.
While his club’s immediate focus is on climbing the Scottish Championship table, Meghoma said the possibility of playing for Nigeria “would be an honour.”
“It is all about the team. For myself it is an opportunity, but as long as we are winning games of football then that is the most important part,” he added, further confirmung that club success remains his priority as he continues to develop.
