Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke is edging closer to a return to Belgian football, with Belgian heavyweights R.S.C. Anderlecht now leading the race to sign the Sevilla winger ahead of the new season, sportcabal.com reports.
The 27-year-old has emerged as one of the players expected to leave Sevilla FC this summer as the La Liga side continues its efforts to reduce its wage bill and generate transfer income.
According to reports, Anderlecht are preparing an offer worth around €3.5 million, with performance-related bonuses expected to take the total package to €4 million. Sevilla are understood to be open to the proposal, with negotiations progressing positively.
The Belgian club have moved ahead of English sides Fulham F.C. and Leeds United F.C., both of whom have also monitored the Nigerian international in recent weeks.
Ejuke arrived at Sevilla on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 after the expiration of his contract with PFC CSKA Moscow. However, his first campaign in Spain was disrupted by injuries and inconsistent form, limiting his impact despite showing flashes of the pace and dribbling ability that have defined his career.
With his contract running until 2027, Sevilla are willing to sanction a sale if their valuation is met, making a permanent exit increasingly likely.
A return to Belgium could be the ideal move for the Super Eagles attacker. During his loan spell at Royal Antwerp F.C. in the 2023-24 season, Ejuke rediscovered his best form, registering five goals and four assists in 35 appearances while helping the club compete domestically and in Europe.
His impressive displays in the Belgian Pro League revived interest in the former SC Heerenveen winger, whose explosive style and one-on-one ability made him one of the league’s most exciting attackers.
Ejuke’s European journey began after leaving Gombe United F.C. for Norwegian side Vålerenga Fotball in 2017. Strong performances earned him a move to Heerenveen before a big-money switch to CSKA Moscow, where he established himself as one of the Russian Premier League’s standout wingers. He also spent time on loan at Hertha BSC before rebuilding his reputation with Royal Antwerp.
Now, with Anderlecht determined to strengthen their attacking options and Sevilla eager to conclude player sales, all signs point towards Ejuke making a familiar return to Belgium.
The move could provide the perfect platform to rediscover his best football, secure regular playing time, and force his way back into Nigeria’s plans ahead of upcoming international competitions.
