Sevilla forward Akor Adams has said helping his team win matches is more important to him than his personal goal tally.
The Nigerian striker made the remarks after Sevilla’s 1–1 draw with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, where he ended a five-match goal drought by opening the scoring at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Reflecting on the result, Adams admitted the team had mixed feelings despite earning a point.
“I think every point is important at this stage of the season. We work hard to get them. We got a point. But there are many things to work on and improve to reach our goal of three points,” he said.
The Super Eagles striker also took responsibility for missed chances that could have helped Sevilla secure victory.
“Yes, we’re happy to have gotten a point, but not entirely, because I also take responsibility. There were many situations that could have put us ahead. We’ll just work on that and we’ll be better next time,” Adams added.
Adams stressed that while scoring goals is part of his role as a striker, collective success matters more.
“For me, the most important thing is to win with Sevilla. I work hard every day to win matches,” he said.
“Scoring goals is my job. But at this stage of the season, it doesn’t matter if Kike scores or if Lucien scores. In the end, we’re a team. We need to get points.”
Despite reaching seven league goals this season, the Nigerian international believes he should have scored more.
“Seven goals… I think I should have scored more. So I’m grateful to God, but I’m not satisfied right now,” Adams concluded.
The goal against Rayo Vallecano took Adams’ season tally to seven goals and three assists in 22 La Liga appearances, underlining his growing influence in Sevilla’s attack.
