Nigeria international Frank Onyeka has officially completed a permanent move to Coventry City after spending the second half of last season on loan from Brentford.
The deal, which takes effect from July 1, follows Coventry City’s return to the Premier League, with the Sky Blues deciding to retain the experienced midfielder as part of their plans for the 2026/27 campaign.
Onyeka made a positive impression during his loan spell, featuring in 14 Championship matches and scoring one goal as Coventry fought their way back to England’s top flight. His energetic displays in midfield convinced the club to make the transfer permanent.
The 27-year-old also arrives with valuable Premier League experience. During his time at Brentford, Onyeka played 75 Premier League matches, establishing himself as a reliable and hardworking midfielder capable of operating in different roles.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Onyeka expressed his delight at continuing his journey with Coventry City.
“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals and that was to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League.
“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.
“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and bring my experience.
“My ambition now is to help the Club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can.”
Onyeka is expected to play a key role as Coventry City prepare for life back in the Premier League. His experience, defensive discipline and relentless work rate are expected to strengthen the club’s midfield as they aim to avoid relegation and establish themselves in the top flight.
The permanent transfer also marks a new chapter in Onyeka’s career after four seasons with Brentford, where he gained valuable experience competing against some of the best teams in English football.
