Besiktas have reignited their interest in Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi after OGC Nice confirmed the Nigerian will leave the club permanently this summer.
The Turkish Super Lig giants have taken concrete steps to sign the forward.
OGC Nice sporting director Roger Ricort has made clear that Moffi has no future at the Allianz Riviera despite having a year left on his contract.
He is one the list of players we want to leave. He will surely be transferred elsewhere,”
Ricort added that the club would handle the departure professionally even though the relationship with the player has broken down. Co-president Maurice Cohen also confirmed the 27 year old will not play for Nice again, closing the door on any reconciliation following his return from a loan spell at Porto.
Besiktas have previously chased Moffi in January before he opted for Porto instead. This time reports from the English press indicate the Turkish club have taken firmer steps to get a deal done, with Nice ready to sanction a sale if a suitable offer arrives.
Moffi endured a difficult loan spell at Porto, managing two goals and one assist in 15 appearances before the Portuguese champions declined to trigger an eight million euro option to sign him permanently. He returned to Nice for pre season training this week despite the uncertainty hanging over his future.
Moffi’s relationship with Nice supporters collapsed in November after he and teammate Jeremie Boga were confronted by angry fans following a defeat to Lorient.
The Nigerian did not feature for the club again before securing his move to Porto in January. Boga has since completed a permanent transfer to Juventus following his own loan spell in Italy.
Nice are also working to trim their wage bill this summer, with Moffi’s salary cited as one of the financial factors behind the club’s willingness to let him go. In 72 appearances for Les Aiglons, the striker scored 24 goals and provided five assists.
Moffi remains part of Eric Chelle’s plans for the Super Eagles and a fresh start in Istanbul would give him a platform to rebuild his form ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign starting in September. His versatility and physical profile have long been seen as assets for Nigeria’s attack alongside players like Victor Osimhen and Tolu Arokodare.
With Nice determined to move him on and Besiktas showing renewed intent, the coming weeks should clarify whether Moffi completes a switch to the Super Lig. Other suitors including Marseille and Premier League clubs have also been mentioned, but Besiktas currently appear the most active in pursuing a deal before the new season begins.
