Sporting Lagos fought back to earn a valuable point against Barau FC as Sodiq Ayoade’s goal secured a 1-1 draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League clash.
The result ensured Barau FC maintained their unbeaten start to the season, extending their impressive run to six matches. The Kano-based club arrived in Lagos as league leaders after winning three and drawing two of their opening five games.
Barau took the lead in the 34th minute when Joseph Atule converted from the penalty spot to silence the home supporters at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. The visitors looked set to continue their winning momentum after taking a first-half advantage.
Sporting Lagos, however, responded strongly after the break.
Ayoade, who has been one of the club’s key players this season, found the equaliser in the 61st minute to bring the hosts back into the contest. His goal sparked celebrations among the home fans and ensured Sporting Lagos avoided defeat.
The draw continued Barau’s remarkable start to life in the NPFL. The newly promoted side remains among the league’s surprise packages and has quickly established itself as a serious contender in the early weeks of the campaign. They recently climbed to the top of the table after defeating Abia Warriors 2-0.
