The Super Eagles are in Bissau. The Nigeria delegation touched down on Sunday evening, two days before their Group L date with Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Team media officer Promise Efoghe told the News Agency of Nigeria that the squad landed at the Osvaldo Vieira International Airport at about 8:40pm. The group travelled on a chartered ValueJet flight after leaving Uyo around 5pm, a couple of hours later than the original schedule.
It’s been a quick few days for Éric Chelle’s players. They beat Madagascar 2-1 in Uyo on Friday, then held one last training session on Sunday morning before heading to the airport.
That leaves very little time to recover. The players now have today to settle in, adjust to the conditions and go through final preparations before Tuesday’s kickoff at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro. Kickoff is 5pm Nigerian time.
The DDjurtusof Bissau are ranked 132nd in the world and 38th in Africa. However, they opened the group with a 2-0 win over Tanzania and now sit top on goal difference, level with Nigeria on three points.
They also have some history against the Super Eagles. The two sides have met four times and Guinea-Bissau have won just once, a 1-0 result at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja during the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Nigeria will go through their final preparations in Bissau today before Tuesday’s game. A win would put them firmly in control of Group L heading into the next qualifying window.
