Samuel Chukwueze has admitted that competition for places in the Super Eagles squad is becoming tougher as new talents continue to emerge.
The Fulham winger is one of the most experienced players in the current national team setup, but he knows that no position is guaranteed under coach Eric Chelle.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON qualifying campaign, Chukwueze acknowledged the challenge posed by younger players pushing for opportunities in the squad.
One of those players is Azeez Tella, who has been attracting attention with his performances and is seen as one of the promising talents looking to establish himself at international level.
Chukwueze stressed that healthy competition is good for the team because it pushes every player to improve and perform at a higher level.
The former Villarreal star explained that every player invited to the national team deserves respect and has earned the chance to compete for a place.
Rather than seeing new arrivals as a threat, Chukwueze believes the increased competition will make the Super Eagles stronger as they prepare for future tournaments.
The 27-year-old remains one of Nigeria’s most important attacking players. Since making his debut in 2018, he has represented the country at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and has played a key role in several qualification campaigns.
Under Chelle, the Super Eagles are entering a new era with a blend of experienced stars and emerging talents.
Players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Chukwueze continue to provide leadership, while younger players are being given opportunities to prove themselves.
With AFCON qualification on the line and fierce competition within the squad, the winger knows that consistent performances will be needed to remain a regular starter for the Super Eagles.
