Super Eagles midfielder Aderemi Adeoye will not be joining Middlesbrough after completing a trial with the English Championship club, despite earlier speculation linking him with a move to the Riverside Stadium.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder travelled to England for an assessment after impressing with Nigeria Premier Football League side Ikorodu City and earning recognition with the Super Eagles. However, the proposed move to Middlesbrough has now collapsed.  

Fresh talks with another EFL club

Although a transfer to Middlesbrough is no longer on the cards, Adeoye’s ambition of playing in England remains alive.

The midfielder is now in discussions with another club in the English Football League as he continues to explore opportunities ahead of the new season. The identity of the interested club has not been disclosed.

Impressive rise

Adeoye enjoyed an impressive campaign with Ikorodu City, where his performances helped the club secure a fourth-place finish in the NPFL.

His displays also earned him international recognition, with the youngster breaking into the Super Eagles setup and attracting interest from clubs outside Nigeria.  

Focus shifts to next opportunity

While missing out on a move to Middlesbrough is a setback, Adeoye remains on the radar of clubs in England.

With transfer talks continuing elsewhere in the EFL, the Nigerian midfielder will now hope to secure a move that offers him the opportunity to continue his development in English football.
