Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella has made it clear that reclaiming his place in the Super Eagles squad is one of his biggest objectives ahead of the new season.
The 27-year-old endured a frustrating campaign after injuries disrupted his momentum at both club and international level, limiting his opportunities to cement a regular place in Nigeria’s national team.
Despite the setback, Tella remains determined to fight his way back into Eric Chelle’s plans and believes a strong season in Germany will give him the best chance of returning to the Super Eagles fold.
The versatile attacker admitted that representing Nigeria remains a huge honour and insisted he is fully focused on doing everything possible to earn another call-up.
After playing a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga-winning campaign, Tella saw his progress slowed by fitness issues last season. Nevertheless, he is now looking ahead with renewed optimism as preparations begin for the 2026–27 campaign.
Competition for places in Nigeria’s attack has intensified in recent months, with established stars such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze continuing to impress, while several emerging talents have also strengthened their claims for selection.
However, Tella believes consistent performances at club level will be enough to put him back in contention.
The former Southampton and Burnley forward possesses the versatility to operate on either wing or through the middle, making him an attractive option for the Super Eagles coaching staff as they continue building a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
With the new season fast approaching, Tella will be hoping to stay fit, rediscover his best form and prove he deserves another opportunity to wear the famous green and white jersey.
