Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has given a strong endorsement of Eric Chelle’s new contract, crediting the head coach with restoring unity and belief within the Nigerian national team. Simon spoke as reaction continues to trail Chelle’s fresh deal with the Nigeria Football Federation.
The winger, one of the longest serving members of the current squad, said Chelle has united the players around a clear vision since taking charge.
“Coach Eric Chelle has brought stability to this team. He has united the players, and everyone believes in what we’re trying to achieve together, Simon said
Simon added that the atmosphere in camp has improved significantly under the Franco-Malian, with players fully committed to his methods.
He described the bond between the squad and the technical crew as one of the team’s biggest strengths heading into the next phase of Chelle’s reign.
“He has brought out the best in us. We are ready to go to war for him, for the country and for the badge because we believe in what he is building,” Simon said
Chelle signed a new deal with the NFF after months of negotiations that stretched back to the end of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. His monthly salary has doubled from 50,000 dollars to 100,000 dollars, short of the 130,000 dollar package he had reportedly requested but still a significant upgrade on his previous terms.
The federation will now also take direct responsibility for paying his coaching assistants, removing a point of friction from his original deal. As part of the new arrangement, Chelle has also been handed responsibility for Nigeria’s U23 side as the country targets a return to the Olympic football tournament at Los Angeles 2028.
Simon’s comments add to a growing list of endorsements for Chelle from within the Super Eagles camp, with senior players like Wilfred Ndidi previously praised for buying into the coach’s philosophy. The winger’s remarks also carry weight given his standing as one of the more experienced voices in the squad, having played under multiple coaches during his international career.
Chelle’s next assignment arrives in September 2026 when Nigeria begin their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. With his contract terms now largely settled and dressing room support evident, attention turns to whether the improved structure can help the Super Eagles end their wait for continental and World Cup success under his management.
