The 29-year-old enjoyed a bright start to life in Glasgow following his move to Celtic. However, a series of hamstring injuries disrupted his momentum and limited his impact during the campaign.

Despite struggling for consistent game time, Iheanacho still played an important role in Celtic’s title-winning run, scoring six goals in his final nine appearances of the season. His contributions off the bench proved valuable as the Hoops secured another Scottish Premiership crown.

Yet uncertainty over his long-term future has continued to dominate discussions around the former Manchester City and Leicester City striker.

Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill previously revealed that Iheanacho frequently sought clarity regarding his situation at the club.

Iheanacho keeps asking me! ‘What do you think, are they going to keep me on?’” O’Neill told The Scotsman.

“I have no idea, mate. Don’t ask me, I am not the manager anymore. This morning again he stopped me in the lift. ‘Are you staying on?’ I have no idea, can you just concentrate on the game this afternoon!”

Vasco da Gama Turn Down Iheanacho Opportunity

Iheanacho signed a one-year contract with Celtic, although the club retain an option to extend his stay by a further season. So far, no final decision has been communicated regarding whether that clause will be activated.

According to reports from the Daily Record, the Nigerian international’s representatives have started sounding out potential destinations ahead of the new season.

Brazilian outlet Atenção Vascaínos reports that Iheanacho was recently offered to Vasco da Gama. However, the Brazilian giants were not interested in pursuing a deal, opting against making a move for the experienced striker.

The rejection leaves Iheanacho’s future hanging in the balance as he waits for Celtic to make a definitive decision on his next chapter.

Celtic Could Yet Make Late Decision

Celtic’s delay in resolving Iheanacho’s situation has encouraged the striker to consider opportunities elsewhere, but his Parkhead story may not be over just yet.

The Scottish champions are currently facing uncertainty of their own, with winger Daizen Maeda attracting interest from clubs in the English Premier League. Should Maeda depart this summer, Celtic may decide to reassess their attacking options and retain Iheanacho for another season.

For now, the Nigerian remains in limbo, with interest expected to emerge from multiple leagues as the transfer window progresses.S
